When trying to lose weight you should accept the fact that you’re going to make many mistakes that will slow down your progress. The only thing you can do about it is to start researching online to increase your knowledge about the world of fitness.
As you learn more and more over time you’ll begin to make less mistakes and start making more progress. Below are some of the most common mistakes in fitness that you should begin to avoid right away if you really want to boost your progress and start seeing results.
1. Working out too much
Yes, you heard me right – even working out too much can end up being a problem if you’re not careful. The problem with over exerting yourself in the gym on a daily basis is that your body won’t have enough time to fully recover. In addition, you can also end up injuring yourself by tearing a muscle or pulling a ligament.
There are many other countless ways you can injure yourself in the gym as well so you really need to be careful not to push yourself too hard when starting out. Instead, you want to take your time and increase your intensity in slow incremental steps.
2. Giving up too early
A lot of people who begin trying to lose weight will often give up too early due to not seeing results. This is unfortunate as everyone who keeps trying to lose weight on a continual basis will eventually see some kind of results as long as they’re actually trying.
We recommend that you at least give yourself a minimum of two months before giving up the gym lifestyle. Don’t just fool around when you’re in the gym either, but instead push yourself hard to get a good workout every time you go. You also need to make sure to go at least three days a week if you want to see optimal results. Of course, you can go more or less if you prefer.
While gym is important, being aware of your diet at all times as it is actually the biggest component to losing weight. If you can’t even commit yourself to making progress in the kitchen then you may as well not even try at all.
3. Falling for the supplement industry
A lot of women (especially younger women) who are getting into the fitness lifestyle will spend way too money ordering supplements online. They do this because they see their idols on social media using these supplements and think that if they use them they will look like them to.
The problem with this is that the person who is advertising the supplement usually doesn’t even use it themselves. The only reason they advertise it to begin with is to make money so they can continue filling a dream of being a fitness superstar.
You’re much better off just to stick to the basic supplements such as whey protein, pre-workout (if necessary) and vitamins.
4. Relying too much on external motivation
While it may be better to bring a partner along the first few times you go to the gym to make the experience not so intimidating, you really shouldn’t always rely on someone else to be there to keep you motivated.
This isn’t to say that you shouldn’t have a workout partners as they are definitely great way to boost morale, but merely that you should be able to motivate yourself from within. Make sure to think about your fitness goals on a daily basis and do anything you can to build your self-motivation.
I like to listen to motivational tapes upon waking up in the morning as I find it puts me in the right mindset when starting the day.
5. Aiming for perfection when just starting out
While it’s true that a lot of people who try to lose weight don’t put in merely enough effort, it’s also true that some people try way too hard. How can someone try way too hard you say?
Well, I’m not actually trying to say that working hard is a bad thing. Just trying to have the same routine as someone who’s been working out for years the very same day that you start working out just isn’t going to happen. You to realize that anyone who is in extremely great shape got the they are by slowly building habits over time.
You can’t expect to build Rome in a day, and you also can’t expect to build an extremely fit body in a day either. Be patient and keep slowly improving and you’ll eventually get there.
6. Not learning proper form
Don’t be the lady who goes to the gym and has to ask how to use every single machine. By doing research at home not only will you look like someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, but you can also injure yourself as well.
Take the time to learn the proper form of each exercise so you can make better results while not hurting yourself in the process.
7. Failure to do research
Not only do you need to do research on how to learn form, but you should also learn how to set up a proper diet as well. This may require you to greatly expand your cooking vocabulary so be prepared to watch countless videos and read articles online to learn this information.
Some people may say that it’s bad to spend too much time learning about fitness, but I actually believe it’s a good thing as it will cause you to slowly get obsessed with your fitness goals over time.
I don’t know about you, but things that I only kind of want in life never seem to get done. Only things I get obsessed with will I eventually find a way to make it happen.
8. Not pushing yourself hard enough
Yeah, I may have said earlier that aiming for perfection is a bad thing, but not pushing yourself hard enough is equally as bad as well. In the beginning pushing yourself hard may not seem like you’re doing much at all, but in reality you’ve already changed your daily routine in a dramatic way.
As long as what you’re doing is hard to you then you know you’re on the right track. Don’t worry though other people are doing as they may just be far ahead of you in their journey towards losing weight. As I said before, you’ll get there eventually as long as you don’t give up and stay determined.
If you know deep down though that you’re not giving it your all then don’t get upset when the results you make are less than what you are after.
