Just to be clear, in no way am I trying to shame you into losing weight just so you can wear a certain type of clothing. I know just how bad it can feel to have someone telling you that you can’t wear something just because “it doesn’t suit your body”.
After a while you just stop trying to wear anything too revealing because you’re afraid of what other people might say or think when they see you. If you’ve ever had this happen to you before then you know just how devastating this can be to your self-esteem, and I would never wish that upon anyone.
Deep down though we know these clothes don’t fit us as well as they do on someone who is in much better shape. So even though no one may be telling us that we don’t look good in that bodycon dress, we are already telling ourselves that before we even put it on.
Fortunately, there is a way to take advantage of this self-pity we feel on a daily basis. By using it as a source of motivation we can actually fuel ourselves to hit the gym and eat healthy so we can finally begin to lose some considerable weight. We’re not losing this weight for anyone else either, but to simply make ourselves feel better in our own skin.
Below are some of the clothing types you probably try to avoid wearing to not be embarrassed, but no more. Now we will look at these types of clothing on a daily basis as motivation to lose weight so we can finally wear that outfit we’ve always wanted too and not feel ashamed. If you really want to motivate yourself you should even start to shop for clothing that is at the goal weight you desire.
Actually being able to view the clothing you’re trying to one day fit into is an extremely good way to motivate yourself. Some people may get discouraged by doing this activity but don’t let it bring you down. Focus on how you’re going to feel when you finally get to wear your new clothes and lack of motivation will finally be a thing of the past.
Wearing short shorts is not only a great way to look good in the summer months, but it’s also much more comfortable than wearing jeans. Unfortunately, most plus size women nowadays stick to only wearing pants in order to avoid showcasing their cellulite to the world. This can get rather old after a while so being able to wear short shorts in public without feeling ashamed will definitely feel like a win.
At one point in time crop tops was one of my biggest fears. The sad thing is though, I wouldn’t even buy crop tops but some of my shirts would actually begin to transform into one over time as I continued to gain weight. Now though crop tops are a great way to show off all that hard work and feel beautiful in the process.
Embarrassed about big arms? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. I used to never wear tank tops (or anything sleeveless for that matter) until I lost a great deal of weight and didn’t feel like I had the arm size of a professional bodybuilder. Taking side pictures used to be the worst because both my belly and my big arms would seem to be the highlight of every picture.
Now just imagine how good it feels to finally not have to worry about which angle the picture is taken from. Plus you can shed all the pointless layers of clothing and finally reveal your toned arms to the world.
While skirts may not be the most popular fashion statement anymore, they’re still comfortable to wear and do manage to go well with quite a few outfits. Sadly though, they do show off a little bit of your legs which causes a lot of bigger women to avoid wearing them.
If you have a particular skirt you’ve always wanted to wear then don’t forget to use that for motivation as well.
For me, this was the ultimate reason to lose weight. I’ve always gotten jealous when I would see those girls with rocking bodies wearing bodycon dresses. How the dress elegantly follows all their curves and gives you a revealing (but yet not revealing) sense of what they got going on underneath.
Unfortunately, if anyone knew what I used to have hiding underneath my dress they would run as fast as they could in the other direction. If you really want to wear a bodycon dress one day then make sure to use that as fuel to get yourself in the gym. I used to go in my closet every time before the gym and stare at my favorite bodycon dress so trust me, it works!
Even though skinny jeans can sometimes fit well on a bigger sized women, they definitely don’t feel the same. Plus if you ever gain a few pounds over the weekend you suddenly can’t fit into your favorite jeans anymore and you’re basically out of luck.
Also they can draw attention to just how big your legs actually are. Whenever wearing anything that tight you tend to not be able to conceal your true weight as much as you can with other “loose fitted” clothing.
Of course, you can’t forget the number one clothing item that plus sized women tend to always avoid – the bikini. No piece of clothing reveals your body more to the world than a bikini, and if you carry a little bit of extra weight then wearing a bikini can be a traumatizing experience.
In all honesty, I used to avoid going anywhere that would involve me having to swim. I just couldn’t bare having people looking at me when I didn’t even like looking at myself.
If you feel a similar way then you can definitely use this as a powerful tool for motivation. Every time you’re about to go workout think of the last time you went swimming and how embarrassing it was. I guarantee you will get up and go to the gym without question.
